Jim was introduced to racing growing up watching his father compete on the dirt short tracks of Central California. Starting his racing on asphalt at the age of 15, cutting his teeth on tracks throughout central and northern California, Jim suffered a life threatening accident at a young age but this did not discouraged him from continuing to compete. At the age of 21 while preparing a race car to compete at Merced Speedway, a dirt track where he first saw his father race, he received a phone call at the shop explaining that there was a team needing a last minute replacement driver
and if he could get to the track, the job
was his. That first night resulted in a top
five finish in his first race on dirt.
Eventually, escalating cost of racing
forced Jim out of the sport but after a
nine year hiatus he returned to racing
at a local short track in Carson City,
Nevada as an official. This led to
the move to North Carolina were
Jim has experienced many
positions in racing including
announcing, flagman, tech
official, promotions and race
director of a touring series. In
2009 he will be returning to
competition in the American
Power Boat Association.
